EC Race Report

St Jean de Losne hosted the EC Canoe Marathon Championships, the French organizer did their best to create a nice and friendly athmosphere, the weather did not help, but it tuned out to be a good event.

As always the masters racing was very exciting and emotive, the masters are very passionate about the sport, and it is a pity they must race in weekdays and at inconvenient schedules, still good to see them having fun!

Juniors and U23 were awesome races, with special note to Norway, that considering all that has happened in the last few days reacted well and made their countrymen proud with a good collection of medals.

Senior singles took place on saturday, the 3 of them were decided in the final sprint K1 José Ramalho POR took the best out of the eternal Manuel Busto, the C1 Nuno Barros POR won and the Women’s race was won by Anna Alberti ITA.

Senior doubles also saw some exciting racing with France overtaking the reigning World Champions Spain in the last race of the weekend, and France took also gold in the K2 W, tying with Portugal in the top of the medal standings in the Senior Discipline.

For Nelo the results could not be any better with 14 out of 15 gold medals, a good weekend!

Now time for the sprinters, the marathon paddlers will now focus in the World Championships taking place in Singapore in October 2011.
